Cable for Fire Risk
Through intensive research, certain compounds, which exhibit reduced flame propagation, lower smoke and acid gas emission, have developed by NICCO. The result of this research helped to incorporate these properties in NICCO Paramite and Parapex Cables, through a new range of cable designs, resulting in flame retardant cables with reduced halogen evolution and smoke (FR-LS) cables. Typical FR-LS properties exhibited by the outer sheaths of these cables are :
  • Minimum Oxygen Index : 29
  • Temperature Index : 250°C
  • Maximum Acid Gas Generation during fire : 20% by weight
  • Maximum Smoke Density rating : 60%
  • Flame Retardance - Withstands flame tests as per specifications LEG 332 - 1, IEEE - 383, Swedish Standard SS - 4241475 - Class f3 (for cable diameters up to 70 mm only).

Routine tests as specified in the relevant specification are earned out on all the drum lengths of cable leaving the works. Type tests and acceptance tests as specified are also carried out on random samples, as and when necessary. Every lot of cable leaving NICCO works undergoes the following tests at the final stages of manufacture:

Routine Tests : Conductor Resistance test High voltage test

Type Test : All type tests as per relevant specifications, viz : IS : 1554 (Part-l),
IS 1554 (Part-2), IEC 502, VDE, etc, are performed when desired by clients.
